How to use the CSV Viewer
- 1 Drop a CSV file into the box, or press browse. You can also paste CSV text instead.
- 2 The separator is detected automatically. If columns look wrong, choose comma, semicolon, tab or pipe yourself.
- 3 Untick First row is the header if your file has no column names.
- 4 Click a column name to sort, and type in the filter box to show only matching rows.
- 5 Press Download filtered CSV to save the rows you see as a new file.
Features
Handles real-world CSV
Quoted fields, commas inside quotes, escaped quotes and line breaks inside a cell are all parsed correctly, following the RFC 4180 format.
Smart sorting
Columns that contain numbers sort numerically, even with thousands separators, while text columns sort alphabetically.
Private and fast
The file is opened by your browser and never uploaded. The table shows the first 2,000 matching rows; the download always includes every match.
Excel-friendly download
Downloaded files include a byte order mark, so Excel opens Urdu, Arabic and other non-English text correctly.
When to use it
Checking an export
Look inside a CSV exported from a bank, an online store or Google Forms before importing it somewhere else.
Finding records
Filter a long customer or product list to one city, one date or one name, and save just those rows.
Sharing a clean extract
Filter a large export down to the rows a colleague needs, then download a smaller CSV to send by email or WhatsApp instead of the full file.
Frequently asked questions
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. The file is read by your browser on your device. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
How large a file can it open?
Files up to 50 MB. Very large files depend on your device's memory; the table displays the first 2,000 rows that match your filter.
Why do all my values appear in one column?
The file probably uses a different separator, often a semicolon in European exports. Choose the separator manually.
Can it open Excel (.xlsx) files?
No. Save the sheet as CSV from Excel or Google Sheets first, then open it here.
Does sorting change my original file?
No. Your file is never changed. Sorting and filtering only affect what you see and what you choose to download.
What is the difference between CSV and TSV?
Both store table data as plain text. CSV separates columns with commas, and TSV uses tab characters, which avoids problems when values contain commas. This viewer detects both automatically.
