How to use the User Agent Finder
- 1 Open this page. Your own user agent appears in the box and is decoded straight away.
- 2 Read the four cards: browser and version, operating system, device type and rendering engine.
- 3 Scroll to More about this browser for screen size, language, time zone and other details.
- 4 To decode another user agent, for example from a server log, paste it into the box.
Features
Decoded in plain words
The long string is turned into the browser name and version, the operating system and whether the device is a phone, tablet, desktop or bot.
Client Hints when available
Chromium browsers also share structured brand and platform data, called User-Agent Client Hints. The tool shows them when your browser provides them.
Nothing sent anywhere
Everything is read from your own browser with JavaScript. The page does not log or store your details.
When to use it
Support requests
Copy your user agent and screen size into a bug report so a developer can reproduce the problem on the same browser.
Reading server logs
Paste a user agent from your analytics or access logs to see which browser or crawler made the request.
Testing a website
When a page looks broken for one visitor, ask them to open this tool and send you the user agent and window size, so you can recreate the same conditions in your browser's device mode.
Frequently asked questions
What is a user agent?
It is a line of text your browser sends with every request, naming the browser, its version and your operating system, so websites can adjust what they show.
Why does my user agent mention Mozilla and Safari?
For historical compatibility, almost every browser includes words like Mozilla, AppleWebKit and Safari. The tool looks for the parts that really identify your browser.
Why does Windows 11 show as Windows 10 or 11?
Windows 11 browsers still send Windows NT 10.0 in the user agent, so the string alone cannot tell them apart.
Can websites see more than this?
Websites can read details such as screen size and language, shown below the cards. They also see your IP address, which this page does not display.
Can I change my user agent?
Yes, with browser developer tools or extensions, for testing how a site behaves on other devices. Websites may then show the wrong layout.
Is the user agent being phased out?
Partly. Chromium browsers have reduced the detail in the user agent string and offer User-Agent Client Hints instead. The string still exists and is sent with every request, so tools and logs continue to use it.
