How to use the Meta Tag Generator
- 1 Write your page title. Keep it under about 60 characters so Google is less likely to cut it.
- 2 Write a meta description of 120 to 160 characters that says what the page offers and why someone should click.
- 3 Add the page's full URL for the canonical tag, and an image link of 1200 by 630 pixels for social previews.
- 4 Optionally add your site name and X (Twitter) handle, and choose whether search engines may index the page.
- 5 Copy the code from the right and paste it inside the <head> of your page.
Features
Live Google preview
See your title, URL path and description laid out like a search result while you type, so you can spot a title that will be truncated.
Length counters
Counters turn red when the title passes 60 characters or the description falls outside 120 to 160, the ranges that usually display in full.
Open Graph and X cards included
The output includes og:title, og:description, og:image and twitter:card tags, so links shared on WhatsApp, Facebook, LinkedIn and X show a proper preview.
Safe output
Quotes and angle brackets in your text are escaped, so the generated tags will not break your page's HTML.
When to use it
Launching a new page
Write the tags once with the preview in front of you, rather than guessing how Google and social apps will display the page.
Fixing ugly link previews
If a shared link shows no image or the wrong text, add the Open Graph tags from this tool and the preview will use your chosen title, description and image.
Frequently asked questions
Does Google always use my meta description?
No. Google may write its own snippet from the page content when it thinks that matches the search better. A clear, accurate description still gives you the best chance of it being used.
Do meta keywords help SEO?
No. Google has ignored the keywords meta tag for many years, so this tool does not add it.
What is a canonical tag?
It tells search engines which URL is the main version of a page. Use it when the same content can be reached at several addresses, for example with tracking parameters.
What size should the share image be?
1200 by 630 pixels works well on Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp and X. Keep important text away from the edges, because some apps crop the image.
Where do I paste the code?
Inside the head section of your HTML page, before the closing head tag. In WordPress, an SEO plugin field does the same job.
