How to use the Compress Image to 50KB

  1. 1 Tap browse or drag your photo into the box. You can also paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V.
  2. 2 Keep the target at 50 KB, or type a different limit if your form asks for something else (for example 40 or 45 KB to leave a safety margin).
  3. 3 Choose JPG for forms and portals, since almost every upload field accepts it. Pick WebP only if the site lists it as allowed.
  4. 4 If the form also asks for exact dimensions, enter a maximum width in pixels. Otherwise leave it empty and the tool keeps your original size whenever possible.
  5. 5 Check the preview and the new size, then press Download image and upload the file to your form.

Features

Hits the target, keeps the quality

The tool tests several compression levels and keeps the highest quality that still fits under 50KB. It only reduces the pixel size when quality alone cannot get there.

Private by design

Compression runs inside your browser with the Canvas API. Your ID photo, signature or document scan is never uploaded to a server.

Fixes sideways phone photos

Photos taken on a phone are automatically turned the right way up using their orientation data, a common cause of rejected uploads.

Transparent PNGs handled

When you convert a PNG with a transparent background to JPG, the empty areas become white instead of black, which is what most forms expect.

When to use it

Passport-size photos for online applications

Many application portals, including visa, university and recruitment sites, ask for a photo between 20KB and 50KB. Compress your photo here, then check the dimensions the form requires.

Signatures and thumb impressions

Scanned signatures are often far larger than they need to be. A 50KB limit is easy to reach while keeping the strokes sharp, especially if you also set a small maximum width such as 600px.

Email and chat attachments

Small images send faster on slow mobile data and do not fill up mailbox storage. A 50KB photo is still clear enough to view comfortably on a phone screen.

Frequently asked questions

Will my image still look good at 50KB?

For typical form photos and documents, yes. A 50KB JPG at around 800 pixels wide looks sharp on screen. Very large, detailed photos may be scaled down slightly so the quality stays acceptable rather than turning blocky.

Is 50KB measured as 50,000 or 51,200 bytes?

We use the stricter definition, 50,000 bytes. A file under 50,000 bytes is also under 51,200 bytes, so it passes forms that use either definition.

Are my photos uploaded or stored anywhere?

No. The image is processed by your own browser and the result is created on your device. Nothing is sent to our servers, which is why the tool also works on a slow connection once the page has loaded.

Why did the dimensions of my image change?

If a photo is too detailed to fit under 50KB at a reasonable quality, the tool reduces its width and height step by step. If your form needs exact dimensions, set the maximum width yourself before compressing.

Can I compress HEIC photos from an iPhone?

Most browsers cannot read HEIC files directly. Change your iPhone camera setting to Most Compatible, or share the photo as JPG first, then compress it here.

What if my form needs a different size, like 20KB or 100KB?

Type any target into the size box. The same tool can produce a 20KB, 30KB, 100KB or 200KB file.
