How to use the Term Deposit Calculator

  1. 1 Enter the deposit.
  2. 2 Enter the interest rate.
  3. 3 Choose the term.
  4. 4 Enter your other income to see the tax.

Worked example

$50,000 for 12 months at 4.6% with $80,000 of other income. The deposit earns $2,300, so it matures at $52,300. At a 32% marginal rate including Medicare, tax is about $736, leaving about $1,564 of interest after tax. A high-interest savings account at a similar rate would pay a little more if interest is added monthly, but the rate could change.
