How to use the Hourly to Salary Calculator

  1. 1 Enter your pay in dollars, for example 25.
  2. 2 Choose what the pay is per: hour, week, two weeks, month or year.
  3. 3 Set your hours per week and weeks per year, for example 37.5 and 52.
  4. 4 Read your annual salary or hourly rate, and every other pay period in the table.

Worked example

$25 an hour, 40 hours a week. A year is 40 × 52 = 2,080 hours, so annual pay is $25 × 2,080 = $52,000. Monthly pay is $4,333.33, biweekly pay is $25 × 80 = $2,000, and semimonthly pay is $2,166.67, all before tax, CPP and EI.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert hourly pay to an annual salary?

Multiply the hourly rate by hours per week and weeks per year. At 40 hours and 52 weeks, $25 an hour is $52,000 a year before deductions.

Is this before or after tax?

Before. Income tax, CPP and EI contributions are deducted from each pay cheque.

What is the standard work week in Canada?

Under the Canada Labour Code, standard hours for federally regulated employees are 8 a day and 40 a week; provinces set their own rules, and many salaried jobs use 37.5 hours.

Biweekly or semimonthly: which is bigger?

Semimonthly pay comes 24 times a year and biweekly 26 times, so each semimonthly cheque is slightly larger.

Does this include vacation pay?

No. Vacation pay of at least 4% applies to many hourly workers. Add it to the hourly rate if your employer pays it on each cheque.

How many paid hours are in a year?

At 40 hours a week for 52 weeks it is 2,080 hours. At 37.5 hours it is 1,950 hours. Statutory holidays are usually paid, so most salaried jobs still count all 52 weeks when working out the hourly equivalent of a salary.

How do I work out an hourly rate from my salary?

Choose Year, enter the salary and your weekly hours. For example, $60,000 at 37.5 hours a week is 1,950 hours, which is about $30.77 an hour before deductions. Overtime and shift premiums are paid on top.

Results are estimates based on the official rates linked above. Confirm important figures with the issuing authority or a qualified adviser before you act on them.
