The amount in every unit

How to use the Lakh and Crore Converter

  1. 1 Type the amount, for example 2.5 or 75. Decimals are fine.
  2. 2 Choose the unit the amount is in, such as crore, lakh or million.
  3. 3 Read the full figure in the Indian format (1,00,00,000) and the international format (10,000,000), plus the amount in words.
  4. 4 Check the table for the same amount in every other unit, such as lakh to million or crore to billion.

Worked example

2.5 crore in other units. One crore is 1,00,00,000, so 2.5 crore = 2.5 × 1,00,00,000 = ₹2,50,00,000. In international format that is 25,000,000, which is 25 million. In lakh it is 2.5 × 100 = 250 lakh, and in words it reads 2 crore 50 lakh rupees.

Features

Indian and international commas

See the same number grouped the Indian way (3-2-2 digits) and the international way (groups of three), side by side.

Amount in words

The figure is spelled out as crore, lakh and thousand, which helps when writing cheques, contracts or invoices.

Seven units at once

Rupees, thousand, lakh, crore, million, billion and trillion are shown together, so you never convert twice.

When to use it

Reading news and budgets

Union and state budgets, company results and property prices are quoted in crore. Turn 1.5 lakh crore into 1.5 trillion rupees to compare it with global figures.

Salary packages

A CTC of 18 lakh per year is 1.8 million rupees. Convert offers from Indian and foreign employers to the same unit before you compare them.

Writing cheques and invoices

Type the amount once and copy the Indian format and words for a cheque, a sale deed or a GST invoice.

Frequently asked questions

How many lakh are in one crore?

There are 100 lakh in one crore. One lakh is 1,00,000 (one hundred thousand) and one crore is 1,00,00,000 (ten million).

How do I convert crore to million?

Multiply by 10. One crore equals 10 million, so 2.5 crore is 25 million. To go from million to crore, divide by 10.

How do I convert lakh to million?

Divide by 10. Ten lakh make one million, so 45 lakh is 4.5 million. One lakh is 0.1 million.

Why does India write 1,00,000 instead of 100,000?

The Indian numbering system groups the last three digits, then every two digits after that. The value is the same; only the comma positions change, matching the names thousand, lakh and crore.

What comes after crore?

In the traditional system, 100 crore is one arab and 100 arab is one kharab. Today most people say 100 crore or 1,000 crore instead, and these are the words this converter uses for very large amounts.
