Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my percentage?

Divide marks obtained by total marks and multiply by 100. For example, 1010 out of 1200 is 84.17%.

What is the new grading system?

IBCC's scheme replaces marks bands with grades: A++ for 95% and above, A+ 90-94%, A 85-89%, B++ 80-84%, B+ 75-79%, B 70-74%, C 60-69%, D 50-59% and E 40-49%. Below 40% is shown as unsatisfactory.

When does the new scheme start?

Boards were told to apply it from the annual examinations of 2026, starting with class 9 and class 11. Some boards may phase it in, so check your result card.

What was the old grading scheme?

A+ for 80% and above, A for 70-79%, B for 60-69%, C for 50-59%, D for 40-49% and E for 33-39%. Below 33% was a fail.

Is the passing mark still 33%?

Under the old scheme it was 33%. Under the new policy, results below 40% are marked unsatisfactory. Follow your board's notification.

Do grace marks count?

Grace marks given by the board are included in your marks obtained on the result card.

How do I calculate percentage for part 1 and part 2 together?

Add the marks of both parts and divide by the combined total. For example, 480 out of 550 in part 1 and 520 out of 550 in part 2 is 1000 out of 1100, or 90.91%.

Will universities use grades or marks?

Universities and IBCC equivalence still use marks and percentages for merit, while the result card shows the grade. Keep your detailed marks certificate.

What is a GPA under the new scheme?

The new scheme also gives grade points, with A++ worth 5.0. Grade points are first shown for each subject and later averaged into a GPA.

Results are estimates based on the official rates linked above. Confirm important figures with the issuing authority or a qualified adviser before you act on them.
