How to use the Hourly to Salary Calculator
- 1 Enter your pay in dollars, for example 25.
- 2 Choose what that pay is per: hour, week, two weeks, month or year.
- 3 Set your hours per week and weeks per year. Use 40 and 52 for a standard full-time job.
- 4 Read your yearly salary or hourly rate in the blue box, and every other pay period in the table.
Worked example
$25 an hour, full time. A standard year is 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours. Yearly pay is $25 × 2,080 = $52,000. Monthly pay is $52,000 ÷ 12 = $4,333.33, biweekly pay is $25 × 80 hours = $2,000, and semimonthly pay is $52,000 ÷ 24 = $2,166.67, all before taxes.

When to use it
Comparing job offers
One offer pays $26 an hour and another $52,000 a year. At 40 hours for 52 weeks, $26 an hour is $54,080, so the hourly job pays more before benefits.
Budgeting a paycheck
Biweekly pay comes 26 times a year and semimonthly pay 24 times. Knowing the exact gross for each paycheck makes rent and bills easier to plan.
Freelance and contract rates
Turn a target yearly income into the hourly rate you need to charge, allowing for the weeks you will not be billing.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert hourly pay to a yearly salary?
Multiply the hourly rate by hours per week and by weeks per year. At 40 hours and 52 weeks that is hourly rate × 2,080, so $20 an hour is $41,600 a year before taxes.
What is the difference between biweekly and semimonthly pay?
Biweekly pay comes every two weeks, which is 26 paychecks a year. Semimonthly pay comes twice a month, which is 24 paychecks a year, so each semimonthly check is slightly larger.
Why does the federal government use 2,087 hours?
The Office of Personnel Management divides federal annual pay by 2,087 hours, the average number of work hours in a year over a 28-year cycle including leap years. Private employers usually use 2,080.
Is this before or after taxes?
Before taxes. The results are gross pay. Federal and state income tax, Social Security and Medicare are taken out of each paycheck.
What is the federal minimum wage?
The federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour, which is $15,080 a year at 40 hours for 52 weeks. Many states and cities set a higher minimum.
Results are estimates based on the official rates linked above. Confirm important figures with the issuing authority or a qualified adviser before you act on them.
